The PA type was manufactured by MG at their Abington, England factory from March 1934 to September 1935. This car uses a 4 cyl engine of 847 cc, with an overhead cam, producing 36 hp. Fuel supplied through an SU fuel pump and twin SU carbs. The engine was seen as a significant improvement over the previous M, C, D and J types as it incorporated a new, stronger, 3 main bearing lower block. The P-types were built as both 4 seaters as well as the more popular 2 seat roadster, with approx. 1,979 total cars built. Many feel this model is the quintessential classic MG style, which was copied over and over into the latter MG-TA, TB, TC and TD models, well into the 1950s. There are only approx. 140 of these car known to exist. The engine drives through a dry clutch, 4 speed non-synchromesh gearbox. This car used both the Marles Weller, and later Bishop cam steering box, and has a wheelbase of 87 inches (2210 mm), with a track of 42 inches (1067 mm).Suspension is leaf spring/sliding trunion style with Andre Harford dampers on the front and Luvax hydrolics on the rear. Brakes are 4 wheel mechanical, with an adjustable fly-off hand brake. This car is also fitted with electro-mechanical trafficator signals, horn, Deluxe instrument assortment, mounted on the correct American Redwood factory dash, and a factory correct Central lubrication system. The PA was followed by approx. 800 MG-PB models of slightly more horse power and a slatted grill, with English Walnut dash, but very similar in almost every other respect. This car is factory correct with the honetcomb grill (last MG before the “slats”) and the correct trim.
